COMMON MATERIALS DEFINED

EPS Foam (Expanded Polystrene Foam) - Commonly referred to as 'Styrofoam'; lightweight, rigid, closed cell insulation.  EPS is available in several compression strengths to withstand load and back-fill forces.  This closed-cell structure provides minimal water absorption and low vapor permanence.

MDF (Medium-density fiberboard) - An engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers and combining it with wax and a resin binder to form panels.  MDF is generally denser than plywood.

HDU (High Density Urethane) - A 'closed cell' rigid urethane foam board made specifically for application of continuous exposure of up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.  It is available in a wide range densities and can be used to generate fine detail by machining or by hand.

RTV Silicone (Room-Temperature Vulcanization silicone)- A type of silicone rubber made from a two component system (base +curative) available in a hardness range of very soft to medium. Silicone can be cured with a catalyst consisting of either platinum or a tin compound.

Polyurethane & Polyurea Coatings -Commonly referred to as 'Hardcoat'; a coating that is formed from the reaction between an isocyanate and an amine. Preferred as topcoats for application where very rapid curing is needed for fast turn-around times, and when the coated substrate will be exposed to extreme conditions.

Typical Applications Include:
  • Architectural Elements

  • Movie Sets and Props

  • Museum Displays

  • Point of Purchase Displays

  • Lightweight Retail Signs

  • Billboards

  • Custom Building Signage
